My absence has been a prime example of just how busy life can get and how fast time moves.  Where did the time go?

Let’s see if I can do some catching up.

As I mentioned in the last post, little guy has been walking full steam and just loves playing.  He has also taken to helping with our dog Buddy.  He helps us get him out of his crate in the morning.  Feeds him.  Yes he actually takes the little cup of food, carries it to his bowl and dumps it in and then returns the cup to the dog food container.  So cute!  And now he likes to tag along when we take Buddy out in the morning.  This usually turns into us walking all around the block.  The kid LOVES to walk!

His sleep is great too!  Last time we has just started doing CIO overnight and now he goes down and within about 20 minutes is asleep with no fussing.  Some mornings he is up around 6:30 which is a little tough on us, but we can let him stay in his room for a bit and he will just babble and not fuss.

And he has really taken to the one nap after lunch.  He naps on average of 1 1/2 hours.  Sometimes I can get 2 out him which of course helps me get more stuff around the house done, but even the 1 1/2 is pretty good.  For naps he is usually out in 10 minutes once I put him in his crib.

I am still technically breastfeeding, but I have him down to once a day only in the morning for about 10 minutes.  I am trying to wean him slowly down.  Yesterday he was done after 5 minutes, but today it was back to 10.  On the one hand I will miss it when it is done completely, but on the other, it has been nice to have the freedom to wear regular bras again!  LOL

We also started going to Gymboree once a week.  He really enjoys that!  The first couple of times he pretty much only played with the balls.  But now he will climb on everything and has started to participate more.  It is so fun to watch him and I might add, quite a workout for us!

With fall arriving I am really looking forward to taking him to the pumpkin patch.  We took him last year, but I think he will certainly get more out of it this year as he enjoys everything around him.

He sure has been keeping us busy.  But such a joy and we just love that little guy so much!!!

——————————————————————————————————-

Another time consumer has been my little ornament business.  I have added some ornaments since my last post.  I have added a couple of more dogs (as a result of a special order), a cat, a cardinal, and more recently football helmets for some of the professional teams.  I have been having so much fun with this and 3 days ago I posted a reminder in one of the Facebook groups in which I am a member and got 10 more orders for the Goldendoodle ornament.  I am loving this!  Again, I have so many ideas in my head, but they will probably have to wait until after Christmas at this rate.  I also signed up for some ad space in a digital Holiday Guide that will come out October 1.  So we will see what happens with that.  If you haven’t checked it out lately, please stop by!  http://FeltNostalgic.etsy.com/

———————————————————————————————————

So there you have the update.  I know it doesn’t seem like too much, but with the little guy, the ornaments, and just taking care of the house, etc., the days seem to fly by.  I will try to stay in touch more.  Thank you for sticking around!

I cannot believe it has been almost 2 months since my last post.  (Hangs head in shame.)

All I can say is, life happens.  Let’s see if I can do some catching up.  I am so behind on my weekly challenges.  I will catch up, even if it means I will need to do 3 in one week. 🙂

Little guy is doing well.  We had his 15 month check up back at the beginning of April and he is doing well!  He was 33 inches long and 26lbs 10oz.  He was in the 98th percentile for height and 90th percentile for weight.  Poor guy got 2 shots, one in each leg, but 2 nurses came in and they did them at the same time so he did not have to get stuck and then stuck again.  I was glad about that.  He did cry but as soon as I picked him up he was ok.  Such a brave boy.  We go back for his 18 month check in July.

He is walking now and really starting to babble.  He is such a happy guy, but does get fussy now and then like most toddlers do.  We were still having sleep issues and talked to the doctor and he suggested that we do cry it out in the middle of the night.  He had started waking up 2-3 times at night and it was getting really tough for me to get up with him and nurse him back to sleep.  So that evening we did CIO when he woke up around midnight and he cried for almost an hour (I cried a little too) but then he slept great.  The next 2 nights he woke up and cried for just about 5 minutes.  Now he sleeps through the night from about 7:30-8pm to around 7:30am.  It is so great!

We just started transitioning him to one nap from 2.  He had been doing 2 naps really well, but then he started not doing the afternoon nap or doing really short naps, so about 10 days ago I just started with the one nap a bit after lunch.  It varies from 1 to 1.5 hours.  My goal is to get him to take at least a 2 hour nap so I can have some time to get some things done around the house.  We will see if he cooperates.  The other day he only did 30 minutes, so we are still working on it.

All in all things are going well.  With him being more mobile he is taking more of my time now, which is ok with me!  He also plays well by himself for a bit so I can get some things done here and there.

I also finally got around (in April) to heading out the library to sign myself up for a library card so I can sign up for the story time they have for babies.  But wouldn’t you know it the program was in its last week!  It starts up again in June.   I think he will enjoy that.

—————————————————————————————————————————–

My little felt ornament side business is doing well.  That has also kept me away from here for a bit catching up on special orders.  I have so many ideas for ornaments in my head that I need a solid week to just make the patterns and the ornaments so I can list them in my shop (but that won’t happen).  I was able to get a couple of patterns made and now I just need to find some time to make the ornaments to post.    If you haven’t checked it out, please stop by:  https://www.etsy.com/shop/FeltNostalgic/

——————————————————————————————————————————

Well, that is about all I have for today.  Gonna try to get back to my weekly challenge.   I actually have 2 that I did, but have not had time to post about yet.  Look for those to come.

1 year checkup . . . January 11, 2014

Little guy had his year checkup on Monday (January 6).  They weighed him (23lbs 13.5 ozs) and measured him 32.25 inches long.  His height is in the 98th percentile!  I was just reading the other day that most babies triple in weight and grow by 50% in their first year, that would put him at 21lbs 3oz and 30 inches.  So he has exceeded that!  🙂

He got his finger pricked to test his hemoglobin to see if he was anemic and the test was perfect, not anemic.  The nurse was so afraid that was going to hurt him and the little guy did not even flinch.  But when it came to the shots, that was a different story.  Thankfully he didn’t cry too long.  That is truly the worst part!

He has 5 teeth.  Bottom 2, top front 2 and the next one is on the left next to the front teeth.   Doctor also told us we could now start him on whole milk.  So we finally got some milk Wednesday (after the polar vortex moved on) and he drank it right up!  On Thursday he didn’t seem as interested so I mixed 4 ounces  of formula and then added 4 ounces of milk to that and that worked.  Same for that evening.  But then Friday I gave him straight milk warmed a bit more than I had before and he took it just fine.  I am glad he likes the milk and we will give him that until he is 2 then we can switch to skim, which is what we drink.

I am still breastfeeding.  Not sure how much he gets from me.  I know he gets a good amount when he wakes early in the morning (around 4-5am) and then again around 8am.  But the rest of the day I am not sure.   I am not sure how much longer I am going to breastfeed.  I know initially I told myself at least 6 months, then I said a year.  But it has been a year and here we still go.  I have thought about reading up on how to wean him, but to be honest the thought of us not having that relationship anymore, does make me a little sad.  I will probably start reading up on it and work on weaning him off in the afternoon and evening. I also pump at night before I go to bed, but I haven’t been getting much at all, maybe an ounce (I typically save that up and give him a bottle at lunch when I have enough).  But sometimes it feels like a chore at night, when all I want to do is relax.  So that will probably end soon.   And then eventually I am hoping to stop the early morning feed, just in the hopes that he sleeps longer (even though he does go back to sleep after that).  Maybe ending breastfeeding by 18 months.  If he wants to stop before that then that is ok too.  There have been a few times before that when the bottle of formula was in his sight he wanted that over me.  So maybe we are headed down that path.

Those truly are special moments that I will always treasure and giving that up will be bittersweet.

birthday party and christmas . . . December 27, 2013

This has been a crazy week, but now we can relax and settle into the new year.  (Well, hubby still has some big gigs but come January 1, he can relax too.)

We had a really good time at little guy’s birthday party on the 21st.  In addition to our little family, my parents and about 15 other friends were in attendance.  This was the 1st really big party that I have thrown since having our little guy and it was so much fun.  Although I am sure those around me the day or 2 before did not think that.  🙂  I did get a bit crazy but it all worked out.  I did almost forget to put the olive penguins out, but they made it to the table and they were a hit!   I kept the food simple.  We had small ham sandwiches, a veggie tray, chips and dip, crackers and cheese, the olive penguins, pasta salad and cupcakes for dessert.  I also made sugar cookies as a favor for everyone to take home.  Here is a photo.
024

They were snowflake cookies and I iced designs on all 46 of them!  🙂

Little guy didn’t seem all too interested in his cupcake.  (I opted for a cupcake instead of his own smash cake.)  He poked at it with his finger.  I actually put a little icing on my finger and he ate it and did that a few more times.  I also gave him a couple of pieces of cake to try and that was enough.  I guess he figured he liked being fed.  After a few bites of the super sweet goodness he had enough.  He would wrinkle up his face.  That was his first taste of something sweet (outside of fruit), so he wasn’t super crazy about digging in.  That was ok with me and hubby.  I did give him a taste of two of one of the small butter cookies I made for Christmas and he seemed to like that as well.

084

Christmas Eve I decided to start a tradition of a Christmas Eve Box.  In the box would go a pair of pajamas that my Mom bought (she has always bought the grandkids pajamas for Christmas Eve/Christmas, an ornament (I decided last year to buy little guy a Hallmark Keepsake ornament every year so that when he went out on his own he would have some for his tree and they would have special meaning/memory for him.  This year I got a picture frame ornament that had “My 1st birthday” on it.  It was perfect.  And lastly the book “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas.”  In the years to come I will probably add a little snack like hot cocoa or something like that.  Then we will open the Christmas Eve box and celebrate before going to bed.   Here he is checking out what is inside.  🙂

053

On Christmas morning, he did ok with opening presents.  I actually opened most of them with his help.  He really loved everything he got but really loved this white bear that had lights, moved and played music.  He would dance around when the music played and also try to give him kisses.  092c

All in all it was a great week with a lot of activities and a lot of being thankful for the blessings we have with this little guy, all of our family and our friends.  Thanks for letting me share with you, dear readers and I am already thinking about next year and what new and exciting topics to talk about in this blog.  I have an idea and am pretty excited about it.   It is a challenge of sorts and something I think is doable, I just want to go about it the right way so I don’t get bored or put too much stress on myself. 🙂  Stay tuned . . .

In the meantime, I hope everyone has had a wonderful holiday season and will have a wonderful New Year.  Thanks again for sticking with me and my blog.   I appreciate it and look forward to sharing more in the new year!

Thursday marked our little guy’s 11th month.  He is getting more and more of a personality and I love it!  He smiles at EVERYONE!!!  I love that!  I have had so many people comment on how good of a boy he is and I must say he really is.  008
(This photo was not easy to get.  All he wants to do when we put him down is roll over and start to crawl!)  🙂

Now don’t think he doesn’t fuss and cry, he does.  But it doesn’t seem like he does it a lot.  He fusses if hubby or I leave the room, but only for a few seconds.  Or he will cry when we put him down for his nap or at bedtime, but it isn’t long.  He has started to be a bit more fussy the last few days, but his upper teeth look like they are about to bust through the gum, so I am sure it is teething pain.  He is just such a joy and I love him so much!

It has been a week of celebration.  Hubby and I celebrated our 5-year anniversary on the 15th, and my birthday was the 18th, the big 4 – 2.  🙂  Hubby always spoils me.  ♥

So sorry I haven’t posted much the past few weeks; life is happening and it is happening fast.  Last week I got most of the outdoor Christmas lights up and the last couple of days I have decorated inside.  I know it isn’t even Thanksgiving yet, but I like to have everything done so that after Thanksgiving I can flip a switch and I am ready for Christmas, at least the decor.  Just a few more lights to put up outside and a couple more items inside.

More importantly I am going to start gathering things for little guy’s birthday!  Less than a month to go!  I still can’t believe how fast the time has gone!  I got the invitations out in the mail yesterday.  Since he was born the 1st day of Winter we are doing a “Winter ONE-derland” theme.  I am so excited!  I got him a special onesie to wear and will be purchasing the decorations either next week or the week after.   I have a couple of cute food ideas I found online and will post those later.  Words cannot truly express how excited I am!  The years it took us to get pregnant and to be reaching this milestone truly leave me speechless and very weepy.  Of course that could also be the PMS I feel like I am experiencing at the moment.

Try as I might, I probably won’t be posting much more until after Thanksgiving.  Once we are done with that, I should have more time.  Thanks for sticking around, I do appreciate it!

Our little guy turned 10 months on Monday. He was 1 ounce shy of 21 pounds and is 30 inches long.  He pulls himself up with ease now and if you hold his hands he can walk around.  He loves playing in his room (playpen) by himself but when he has enough he will let you know.  Also with the pulling up in the crib he has started to suck, chew on the railing, so I ordered a railing cover and should get that today!  He is such a sweet boy and every where I take him everyone just thinks he is the cutest and sweetest as he smiles at everyone! 🙂

007

Since my last post, things have continued to be a little hectic.  Still computer issues, hubby got the wrong check from a client on Saturday, we had to fix our bed on Monday (nothing exciting broke it  lol) and hubby got an oil change Monday morning that turned out to be almost disastrous.  It turned out the oil filter was warped causing his engine and our garage floor and driveway to get soaked with oil.  Jiffy Lube corrected the problem and also cleaned up the mess.  Now hubby has a cold and Lil’ guy’s sleeping seems to be getting worse.  This brings me to my Throwback Thursday post.

I have been feeling run down much like I felt when our little guy was not sleeping well at all, before we did the cry it out method of sleep training.  Last night, for example, he was up at 2am, 4:30am, 5:45am, 6:30am and then 7:30am.  I gave him Tylenol at bedtime and then again at 4:30 hoping it would help, but not so much.    Here is the Lil’ guy at 2 months, asleep in my lap after nursing.  On Tuesday this week I tried to get him to nap for an hour and nothing, so I went to get him and held him in my arms and he promptly fell asleep for 40 minutes.  I sure hope it starts to get better.  UGH! 004

9 month checkup . . . October 7, 2013

Filed under: Baby — nowandevermore @ 3:27 PM
Tags: , , , , ,

We had Lil’ guy’s 9 month check up at the pediatrician today (technically 9.5 months).  It went well.  He weighed 20 lbs 9.5 ozs (a gain of 3 pounds since the 6 month).  He measured 29.75 inches (90th percentile).  Doc looked him over and checked him out and he said he looks great and is doing great!  He got his 3rd Hepatitis B vaccine today and also the 1st of 2 flu vaccine’s.  We go back in 5 weeks for the 2nd one and then see the doctor the 1st week of January for his 1 year check up.

I have been giving lil’ guy solids at lunch and dinner and doc said I can go ahead and start doing 3 meals a day.  I will start that at 10 months.  He said he might start weaning off of the breast milk 😦 so don’t be surprised.  I do hope he still keeps it up for the entire year.  Doc also said not to freak out about the gagging.  I have given lil’ guy some Gerber puffs and every other one he gags a little.  He said it is normal and he is not choking.  It is him just getting used to the different textures.  So I will start experimenting with more small pieces of food.  He still doesn’t have teeth, but he should do just fine.  I just hope Mommy does fine. 🙂

It felt like such a different kind of appointment.  He sat on the scale this time instead of lying down and he sat on the exam table as well.  It has been 3 months since his last appointment, but it felt as if he was so much more grown up.  Weird.  Heck, at this rate he will be walking into his 12 month appointment.

Oh and I almost forgot to mention that he did so well with the shots.  He got one in each thigh and cried as they were happening, but then once it was over he was no longer crying.  Actually he didn’t even shed any tears.  Such a brave lil’ guy.  And I am proud to admit I did not cry either!  A huge feat on my part!

Since I missed Wordless Wednesday, I will cover that and today’s post with one photo.  This is a photo of me on my 1st birthday with a photo of lil guy to show a little comparison. 🙂

It is also appropriate because lil guy started crawling yesterday.  He took a few movements forward (what do you call them, they aren’t steps right?) in his play area and also in his crib when I put him down for a nap.  We also got a few out of him today.  He will probably start to move a lot in the next few days!  Oh boy!

9 months . . . September 24, 2013

On September 8th Lil’ guy turned 37 weeks and 2 days.  Not much of a milestone, but that was actually equal to the amount of time I was pregnant with him.  Just a fun fact.  But on September 21st he turned 9 months!  I know I say this every month, but the time is just going by so fast.  I actually starting thinking of his first birthday party.  I am glad it falls on a Saturday so we can actually have the party on his birthday.  I know we are going to keep it kind of small.  But it is fun to think of what kind of decorations to get and if he will finally be crawling then or be walking and if he will finally have teeth by then.

013

Still no teeth, but I am not that concerned.  Some babies are slow to get teeth.  Just like some are slow to crawl or walk.  I really think he is moments away from crawling as he gets on his hands and knees and rocks back and forth a lot and also propels himself forward.

He has started babbling more and says Ma Ma more.  Just run-on’s like Da Da, but still fun to hear.  I have gotten the hang of getting him in and out of the car seat more.  When I am getting him out he actually starts to pull his way out.

Other than that not too much going on.  The weather has been really nice lately and we have gone on a 2-mile walk several days in a row.  It feels so good to be exercising again and I know the fresh air is good for everyone.

His sleep is still going well.  He is usually asleep by 7:30-8pm.  Some nights he cries some nights he doesn’t.  He sleeps through until around 6-7am.  If he does wake up crying before then I give it a few minutes and he usually falls back to sleep.  Then once he gets up I feed him and am able to put him back down and he usually falls back to sleep and gets up for the day around 8:30-9am depending on when he first got up.  Napping is still hit and miss.  Some days he will only nap 30 minutes at a time.  Other days, like yesterday, he did 35 minutes and then an almost 2 hour nap.  If he does long naps I can get 2 out of him.  If they are shorter I try for 3.

I introduced pureed chicken on September 13th.  He likes it and I just made some pureed pears yesterday.  I really do enjoy being able to make his food for him.  I think it is much cheaper than buying baby food and I like that I know what is in it. 🙂  And most importantly he enjoys them.

My milk supply is not that great, but I am doing what I need to do for him.  I introduced an additional bottle in the middle of the day.  So he gets 6 ounces of formula then and an 8 ounce bottle at night.  I pump in the evening after he is in bed and if I am lucky can get about 2.5 ounces (2-3 pumps over and hour or 2).  Yesterday I took about 3 bottles that I had pumped the last few nights and gave him breast milk instead of formula in the afternoon.  Not sure if it was that or the fact that he hadn’t napped well the day before but after that is when he napped for almost 2 hours.  I will say it was my milk that did it. 🙂

I set up a little play area in his room and put him in there with some of this toys each day so that he has time to play by himself.  I have the free camera we got set up so I can watch him.  He is getting into that clingy stage a bit.  If he is in a position to see me if I walk down the hall he will start to cry but then will stop after a minute.  Then if he sees me again he will cry again for about a minute then be ok.  I have to fight the urge sometimes to go “rescue” him, as I know he is ok.  Besides, I am usually trying to get some house work done, so it is good for both of us.

The times I take him out to run errands he is such a good boy.  I took him with me to get my flu shot and he did so well.   The other day I had to run to CVS and then to Walgreens (CVS didn’t have what I needed) and each time someone talked to him and he just smiled at them in response.  One time he started to babble.  I am glad that he doesn’t act shy around other people.  I don’t know if he ever will or not.  But a few people commented that he was such a good boy and so sweet.  I have to agree.  I just love this little guy so much!

labor day, etc. . . September 8, 2013

Sorry for the absence, but we took a little trip to see my parents for Labor Day.  We drove down on Monday and came back Thursday afternoon and the last few days I have been pretty tired and also hubby has had some late night gigs, so I just haven’t felt much like writing.  I also think I may be getting my period again!  I hate the fact that I get it while I am breastfeeding and that it makes my supply tank each time and the fact that I never know when it is coming any more.  So far my cycles have been 24 days, 32 days, 35 days and 24 days.  Today is Day 26 and nothing yet, but I can feel it coming.  UGH!  As silly as it may seem, each month now, I think about when I might be ovulating which would equate to my fertile time and I can’t help but wonder if we would ever get that surprise pregnancy.  I would say based on my history and age the odds are probably less than .1%, but it doesn’t prevent me from at least thinking about it.  Hubby and I haven’t talked much about a second child.  But I certainly have not shut the door on the possibility.  We have both said that if by some miracle it happens without any medical intervention it would most certainly be a blessing, but as far as trying with the help of doctor’s, we haven’t discussed this in detail.  I am not quite ready for that as I feel I am still recovering and trying to get myself back into shape.  Who knows what next year will hold though.  🙂

——————————————————————————————————–

Our trip went well.  We got there late afternoon on Monday.  My Mom had made BBQ pork steaks; a Labor Day tradition and they were yummy!  On Tuesday we went to the Zoo.  It was a nice day and little guy’s first trip.  Well, technically his second trip.  His first trip was 3 days after he was transferred into my uterus.  LOL!  He was still a bit too young to really have a lot of fun, but he did enjoy looking around at the new sites.  Of course wouldn’t you know, we park the car and both my Mom and I realize that we left our cameras at her house and we don’t have smart phones with fancy cameras.  So our first stop was the gift shop.  Thankfully they still sell disposable cameras.  For those of you unaware, these are actual film cameras that you have to get developed.  The lady who worked there said, “you would be surprised at how many people do not know how to use them.”    Grandma also bought little guy a hat as I forgot to bring that as well.  (But I did remember the sunscreen!  I am not a completely bad Mom.)  🙂    I still haven’t taken the camera to be developed.  I am going to do that today or tomorrow and get a CD of the photos.  I do love having a digital camera for this ability.  I don’t think I will forget mine again!

The rest of the trip was pretty low-key.  Just relaxing and visiting.  Little guy did much better sleeping and napping in his pack ‘n’ play than I thought he would.  He has never slept in it before so I was not sure how it would work.  But there really wasn’t any difference, other than maybe a few more minutes to fall asleep.  And that video camera I got with my car seat purchase came in handy and was so perfect!  It was great to be able to keep an eye on him as he fell asleep.

Oh and Wednesday was also a little bittersweet.  We brought the new car seat with us but did not have it installed.  Hubby took the old one out on Wednesday and I installed the new one and then we stopped by the local fire station to have them check it.  They were impressed that I had done such a great job of installing it.  They tightened it just a hair and we were good to go.  It was sad to think that he no longer will be in his little car seat.  I am still getting the hang of putting him in the new one.  It was so convenient having the one you can just take out and carry, but little guy is just too tall for it.  And I really miss the canopy to block out the sun.  For the drive back home I fashioned a towel clipped with clothespins so that it would block the sun from the side window.  Yes I do have one of those window shades, but it isn’t big enough to cover the entire window.  I have an idea of something to make and will hopefully get to that in the next few days.  Right now I load him in thought the rear driver’s side (he is on opposite side).  I don’t like the idea of having my back turned taking the time to load him and buckle  him in.  Can’t see if someone were to approach me from behind.  And in this day and age, you can never be too careful.  So I just get in the back seat with him, lock the door and load and buckle him in.  Then get out and get into the front seat.  I know this probably looks a little funny, but it feels safer to me.  If hubby was with me, I would load normally though.

As far as little guy, he is not crawling yet.  I thought he might do it while we were visiting my parents, as that is when he finally rolled over from his back to his belly.  But no such luck.  He sits and once in a while he will lean back too far and fall backwards.  If you hold his hands he will pull himself up to a standing position.  And there is still no teeth!  I am kind of thankful as I do dread that day he gets some since I am still breast-feeding.  No idea when this will happen, but I am not worried.  I would love it if he started to crawl, but he may not crawl.  Maybe he will just start walking.  Only time will tell.  He is really still only saying dada and of course the raspberries.  Oh and he is screeching a lot these days!  He screeched so loudly yesterday, my ears actually ached for about an hour after.

We are still feeding purees.  I tried a few pieces of soft food here and there, if they are really soft he does ok.  I also tried the Gerber puffs here and there he did ok, he crunched them with his gums.  But then once in a while he would suck it in and he would gag.  So I would have to stick my finger in and sweep the back of his tongue to get it out.  It freaked me out a little.  That was the last time I gave him one( over a week ago).  I don’t want to rush.  He does like the purees.  We have done, zucchini, butternut squash, sweet potato, apple, nectarines, cantaloupe, acorn squash, avocado, peaches, green beans, carrots, prunes, peas and bananas.  I also did a mixed jar of apples and plums as well as a turkey/vegetable blend (that was the free jar of Earth’s Best we got from the movie theater when we went to the bring your baby matinée which they no longer do.  The only thing that didn’t work was the bananas.  He spit up after those.  I know I can’t eat them without getting indigestion.   So I think he is doing well, especially since he has no teeth.  What are some of the fun purees that you have tried?

I think that updates things.
