My absence has been a prime example of just how busy life can get and how fast time moves.  Where did the time go?

Let’s see if I can do some catching up.

As I mentioned in the last post, little guy has been walking full steam and just loves playing.  He has also taken to helping with our dog Buddy.  He helps us get him out of his crate in the morning.  Feeds him.  Yes he actually takes the little cup of food, carries it to his bowl and dumps it in and then returns the cup to the dog food container.  So cute!  And now he likes to tag along when we take Buddy out in the morning.  This usually turns into us walking all around the block.  The kid LOVES to walk!

His sleep is great too!  Last time we has just started doing CIO overnight and now he goes down and within about 20 minutes is asleep with no fussing.  Some mornings he is up around 6:30 which is a little tough on us, but we can let him stay in his room for a bit and he will just babble and not fuss.

And he has really taken to the one nap after lunch.  He naps on average of 1 1/2 hours.  Sometimes I can get 2 out him which of course helps me get more stuff around the house done, but even the 1 1/2 is pretty good.  For naps he is usually out in 10 minutes once I put him in his crib.

I am still technically breastfeeding, but I have him down to once a day only in the morning for about 10 minutes.  I am trying to wean him slowly down.  Yesterday he was done after 5 minutes, but today it was back to 10.  On the one hand I will miss it when it is done completely, but on the other, it has been nice to have the freedom to wear regular bras again!  LOL

We also started going to Gymboree once a week.  He really enjoys that!  The first couple of times he pretty much only played with the balls.  But now he will climb on everything and has started to participate more.  It is so fun to watch him and I might add, quite a workout for us!

With fall arriving I am really looking forward to taking him to the pumpkin patch.  We took him last year, but I think he will certainly get more out of it this year as he enjoys everything around him.

He sure has been keeping us busy.  But such a joy and we just love that little guy so much!!!

Another time consumer has been my little ornament business.  I have added some ornaments since my last post.  I have added a couple of more dogs (as a result of a special order), a cat, a cardinal, and more recently football helmets for some of the professional teams.  I have been having so much fun with this and 3 days ago I posted a reminder in one of the Facebook groups in which I am a member and got 10 more orders for the Goldendoodle ornament.  I am loving this!  Again, I have so many ideas in my head, but they will probably have to wait until after Christmas at this rate.  I also signed up for some ad space in a digital Holiday Guide that will come out October 1.  So we will see what happens with that.  If you haven’t checked it out lately, please stop by!

So there you have the update.  I know it doesn’t seem like too much, but with the little guy, the ornaments, and just taking care of the house, etc., the days seem to fly by.  I will try to stay in touch more.  Thank you for sticking around!

I cannot believe it has been almost 2 months since my last post.  (Hangs head in shame.)

All I can say is, life happens.  Let’s see if I can do some catching up.  I am so behind on my weekly challenges.  I will catch up, even if it means I will need to do 3 in one week. 🙂

Little guy is doing well.  We had his 15 month check up back at the beginning of April and he is doing well!  He was 33 inches long and 26lbs 10oz.  He was in the 98th percentile for height and 90th percentile for weight.  Poor guy got 2 shots, one in each leg, but 2 nurses came in and they did them at the same time so he did not have to get stuck and then stuck again.  I was glad about that.  He did cry but as soon as I picked him up he was ok.  Such a brave boy.  We go back for his 18 month check in July.

He is walking now and really starting to babble.  He is such a happy guy, but does get fussy now and then like most toddlers do.  We were still having sleep issues and talked to the doctor and he suggested that we do cry it out in the middle of the night.  He had started waking up 2-3 times at night and it was getting really tough for me to get up with him and nurse him back to sleep.  So that evening we did CIO when he woke up around midnight and he cried for almost an hour (I cried a little too) but then he slept great.  The next 2 nights he woke up and cried for just about 5 minutes.  Now he sleeps through the night from about 7:30-8pm to around 7:30am.  It is so great!

We just started transitioning him to one nap from 2.  He had been doing 2 naps really well, but then he started not doing the afternoon nap or doing really short naps, so about 10 days ago I just started with the one nap a bit after lunch.  It varies from 1 to 1.5 hours.  My goal is to get him to take at least a 2 hour nap so I can have some time to get some things done around the house.  We will see if he cooperates.  The other day he only did 30 minutes, so we are still working on it.

All in all things are going well.  With him being more mobile he is taking more of my time now, which is ok with me!  He also plays well by himself for a bit so I can get some things done here and there.

I also finally got around (in April) to heading out the library to sign myself up for a library card so I can sign up for the story time they have for babies.  But wouldn’t you know it the program was in its last week!  It starts up again in June.   I think he will enjoy that.

My little felt ornament side business is doing well.  That has also kept me away from here for a bit catching up on special orders.  I have so many ideas for ornaments in my head that I need a solid week to just make the patterns and the ornaments so I can list them in my shop (but that won’t happen).  I was able to get a couple of patterns made and now I just need to find some time to make the ornaments to post.    If you haven’t checked it out, please stop by:

Well, that is about all I have for today.  Gonna try to get back to my weekly challenge.   I actually have 2 that I did, but have not had time to post about yet.  Look for those to come.

2014 pinterest challenge – week 8 February 28, 2014

Ok, this one is going to be a little different.  There is not a specific challenge that I am doing, but it is more of an idea that has been percolating for several weeks and this week finally came to fruition.  I have alluded to this in one or two of my previous posts.  I have perused many a Pinterest post and have seen a lot of handmade items.  I have ALWAYS wanted to make handmade Christmas ornaments but could never decide what I wanted to do.

Well a few weeks back it hit me!  My Mom made these wooden ornaments back in the 1960s (from a kit) and they have been a fixture on our Christmas tree since then.  The tree doesn’t seen decorated without them.  So once night as I was trying to fall asleep my mind came to those ornaments and I realized I could recreate them with felt!  Felt is pretty easy to work with and you can do so much with it!  You have no idea how excited I was to realize this idea!  It has evolved a bit from there.

I started piecing things together (no pun intended) and came up with the materials and started working on the patterns for the ornaments and then I came up with a name for my Etsy shop!  I signed up and got the name registered to me and then started making the ornaments.  Oh how much fun I have had creating them!  My goal was to get 8 completed and then open my shop.  This week I did it!  Monday to be exact!

So that is my challenge for this week.  I am still working on creating more ornaments, but at least I have the shop open!

You are probably thinking it is the end of February, why is she posting about Christmas ornaments?  Well, it is never too early right?  Ok maybe it is.  But I wanted to be able to get a head start on this and get my name out there!   Here is one of the ornaments.

So please stop by and have a look at my items.  Each one is hand cut and handmade.  I can also do special orders!  and here is my Facebook page as well.  Please stop by and “Like” it if you like what you see.

I am so excited about this and excited to come up with more unique designs.  And then eventually I want to expand to other holidays as well.

I am doing a little research and need your help.

For those of you who shop on, what products or items do you typically buy or what would you be interested in buying?

Are there any type of products you haven’t seen but would love to see on Etsy?

I appreciate your help!

How many of you are on Pinterest?  I joined a couple of years ago and haven’t spent a lot of time on it, but there have been a few things I have tried.  Mostly a few recipes here and there.  I have a lot of pins, but never make the time to attempt the projects.  It is so easy to make excuses.  I don’t have time to do this.  It is too involved, etc.  So after doing a lot of thinking about it, I have decided to create my own Pinterest challenge.

I was pretty successful 2 years ago with my 30-day blog challenge, so along those lines I am going to do a 52-week Pinterest challenge.  There are no “rules” per se.  I will attempt one project, recipe or other pinned item per week.  I will take a photo of my accomplishment and share the good, the bad and the ugly.

For example, I have been looking at a lot of organizing tips and there are some places in our house that need to be organized (my office space, my closet, kitchen).  So I will take a before and after photo.  Not too excited about showing the before photo’s but I want this to have an impact.  And it will help me “take ownership” of my not-so-organized life.

I have been compiling a bunch of “pins” in a secret board on Pinterest and will try to come up with some good ones.  Ideally, I would love to do a recipe, an organizing task and a creative task each month.  Having 4 or 5 pins to do each month should keep things interesting and by the end of the year I am hoping the house in organized, I have some really cute crafts (some will definitely be Christmas related) and some new recipes that our family loves.  If things are going smoothly I may even throw in some bonus pins.  We will see.

I have some other things in the works, but I am not going to talk about those just yet.  Stay tuned.

In the meantime, have a safe and Happy New Year!  I think 2014 will be a fun year.

I am taking a break from Wordless Wednesday to share something with you dear readers.

I met a women on BabyCenter who also went thru IVF to have her beautiful baby boy.  We became friends on Facebook and recently she joined in a cause that I couldn’t help but join in as well.  It started out as a FaceBook group Prayers for Chase.  About a little boy from Pennsylvania who was the victim of child abuse at the hand’s of the Mother’s ex-boyfriend (not the father).  This 20-month old boy was severely shaken and had other unspeakable things done to him and he is now on a long road to recovery.

My friend does not know this family, nor do I, but now, being a Mother myself, it has really just touched my heart.  This poor child who could not defend himself against a monster now has endure years of physical therapy just to do things he had just learned to do not a few months before.   It is truly heartbreaking.

My friend recently started an “event” on Facebook to sell Child Abuse Awareness bracelets in honor of this brave boy.  100% OF THE PROFITS earned on these bracelets will be deposited into the Chase Hay Recovery Fund at PNC Bank.

I wanted to share this link to the blog where you can buy a bracelet or two or more.  The cost per bracelet is $3.50.  Some people spend more on coffee each day or a Big Mac.

Here is the link.  BRACELETS FOR CHASE   And here is the link to the Facebook group   Bracelets for Chase Facebook

Please consider purchasing one.  But if you can’t do that at this time, please pass it along to your friends!

Thanks so much for reading this and for your help!

tough week . . . October 20, 2013

Well, perhaps the toughest part of the week was all of the computer issues hubby and I had.  We have had issues here and there, but this week seemed especially full of them.  Hubby had 2 days where he would try to log in and his computer kept locking up.  I mean 2 hours worth of this.  Makes for a difficult time when there is a bunch of work to be done.  Then my machine gives me the BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) that I have talked about before, at least once a day.  Sometimes this happens immediately when it boots up, other times it is right in the middle of a project I am working on!

We are ready for new machines.  So if there is anyone out there with a lot of computer knowledge or know of someone who can recommend a good computer please reply!  We are PC users and want to stay with Windows 7 Professional.

Monday and Tuesday I had horrible migraine pain!   I think my hormones have finally leveled out after the pregnancy.  The last time I had a migraine like that was before I was pregnant.  I knew it was the impending weather front because the next day after the front made its way through I was fine.  UGH!  Then on Tuesday Lil’ Guy spit up on me twice and peed on.  His diaper was full and so I guess it just overloaded as I was holding him.  Of course I had just made a joke to my hubby because of the computer issues and the migraine I said all I need now is to be pooped on.  So about 2 minutes after I said that I said to hom “well, I am actually getting peed on right now.”  I could feel the warmth and wetness.  Thankfully it wasn’t poop!

Then there is healthcare.  I will go ahead and put this out there, I did NOT vote for Obama, I did NOT want Obamacare.  Now I am required to apply.  I have health insurance through the state-run plan.  I was able to get a really good plan after I quit my job (and my COBRA benefits ran out).  I was really hoping I could stay on it, no such luck!  So Friday I spent about an hour or so trying to create my account.  I thought I was done as it say it was in progress.  So yesterday when I logged in to see what was going on, it appeared nothing was going on.  I clicked the link to view my application and a window popped up that said it was not complete.  WHAT?!?!?!?!  So I spend ANOTHER HOUR completing the application that I have completed the day before!  This time I get a window that says “Your application has been processed and your eligibility results are ready for your review.” and there is a nice bog green button below that reading “View Results”.  So I click it.  A new page pops up with a logo and the words “Start Your Application” (WTF?) and then it quickly changes to another page that has

Your application was received and has been processed.

Your detailed eligibility results are ready

And there is another nice big green button below that reading “View Eligibility Results”

I click it and guess what?  I new tab opens up and the page is white.  Nothing is on it.  The end of the web address has “null” which tells me I am not going to see anything, which I don’t!

So I try to “Live Chat” with support and all they can tell me is that it shows “In Progress” so it isn’t ready yet, even though it states that is is!!!!!

I am PO’d about this and will now have to make a call to see what the story is.  I of course checked again today (Sunday) and still the same.  How long did they have to prepare this site?  And to have all these issues and require people to be signed up my March!  At this rate there will be MILLIONS without healthcare all because of the issues with the website.

Oh and they don’t even have the algorithms set up to be smart.  I enter our Lil’ guys info; date of birth etc.  And you would think that it would be able to know that he is only 10 months old.  Nope.  I still have to answer if he will be paying any Alimony or Student Loan Interest. REALLY????

I have no confidence in this and I just hope the person I get on the phone knows something and can help me.  I certainly don’t want to have to discuss my options for healthcare with a complete stranger.  I would like to be able to review this in the privacy of my own home and make the decision without them.  I will update you when I know more.

And last but certainly not least!  Our Lil’ guy has had quite the week.  So not too long ago he started crawling full force (about 3 weeks ago) and sitting up great!  Well, this week he learned to pull himself up in the crib.  Yes he can stand now.  But I am not sure he knows how to sit himself back down.  This happened Thursday.  I should have known something was up, he seemed to want to nurse more starting the day before and since then.  He woke up at 1am on Friday morning and again at 5, 7 and 7:30am.  Then his naps nose-dived.  He did not take one nap on Friday!  All he would do is stand up and cry in his crib.

Then as I was getting him ready for bed, I decided to swipe my finger in his mouth and feel his bottom gum.  Yes!  A tooth started to pop through,  and from the picture (below) it looks like another one may be close behind.  Now it all made sense!  I promptly gave him some Tylenol and his nighttime bottle and once in his crib he was out in under 5 minutes (7:05pm)  and slept until 5:45am.  Poor thing was so tired.  His naps yesterday were short (2 half hour naps) but at least napped.  He was still up a couple of times last night.  As you can imagine none of us are getting a great night’s sleep.  Some days I feel like we are back to his newborn days,   But thankfully it isn’t quite that bad.   I think it just feels like that because we are used to longer stretches of sleep and we haven’t been getting them.

So that is how this week has been.  This week HAS to be better right?

On a side note, I just made a cake!  This was the EASIEST cake I have ever made.  I saw a post on FB and have wanted to try this for the past week and a half and finally just did it.  You take one yellow cake mix and one 15oz can of pumpkin.  That is it!  Mix it together with a mixer and put it in a 9×13 pan (I sprayed it with Pam) and bake at 350 for 28-35 minutes.  I actually did 34 minutes.  It is VERY moist and oh so tasty and the best part . . . LOW FAT!!!  The cake mix has a total of 15 grams of fat and the pumpkin has 1.75 grams of fat, for a total of 16.75. If you make 10 pieces that is less tan 2 grams of fat per piece!  WOW!!!  You have to try it.  And for those who are Gluten free, I know they make Gluten Free cake mixes and I know the pumpkin is gluten-free, so give it a try.  I did by some frosting to put on it, but I may eat it without,  It is THAT good!!!

Here are the pictures from today’s post!
Thanks for reading!

You can see on his left is the tooth popping through and on his right you can see some white which looks like the other tooth just under the surface.

Here is Mr. Fussy .  I went in after he woke up and caught him mid fuss.  We have since lowered the mattress to the lowest position.  I would rather be safe than sorry.  He can still pull up and stand he is just a little lower so it is the perfect height for him to chew on the railing.  (great new problem to solve.)

And here is the Pumpkin cake.  I took a bite out of the corner with a fork and it was so yummy!  Can’t wait to see what hubby thinks about it.
