Over the past couple of weeks I have had to contact a few companies about their products.  I don’t know about you, but when I do this I really don’t expect to hear back from them and when I do I certainly do not expect to get anything other than, “we are sorry about your experience and will forward your concern to the appropriate department,” or something like that.  So when I actually have a positive experience I feel the need to let people know.  Too many times we peruse the internet and only see the bad.  This restaurant has bad food, the employees were rude to me, I was treated badly at XYZ, etc.  We rarely hear about the good stuff.

I received a Go Pod as a gift from my Amazon registry last year.  Well, about 2 months ago I finally had the need to use it and when I took it out of the box one of the brackets on one of the legs was cracked.  I thought for sure any type of warranty had run out, but I took the chance and emailed the company.  I let them know when I got it and how I just now looked at it.  I was surprised to get an email back.  And it wasn’t an automated email.  It was from a real person (at KidCo) with a real name and email address.  Her response was this, “Sorry to hear you opened the GoPod and found it broken.   Can you please send me a picture of the GoPod along with the broken piece.  Let me know also where you purchased it from and if you can find the manufacture date on a white tag on the bottom of the GoPod.   Once I take a look at that, I can contact you back about replacing it for you.”

Replacing it?  Wow!  I had not expected that at all!  I sent a picture and then I had to send another picture after I had “altered” the Go Pod and then she let me know they were going to send me a new one and I should have it in a couple of days.  I am sure they ask you to alter the product because otherwise people would find ways to take advantage of the system.  Anyway, a couple of days later I had the new, unbroken Go Pod and Lil’ guy loves it and it really helps when we take trips or just to put him in there when I need a moment with free hands.

Then there was an issue with the diapers I was using.  I LOVE Pampers.  But all of a sudden Lil’ guy started having urine leaks at night.  This was about 3 months ago.  It wasn’t all the time and only at night.  So I tried a different brand (which was no good!) and in the meantime I contacted Pampers and asked for their help.  They told me that even though his weight limit fell within the range on the package, I should try a size up.  Well, this did the trick and on top of that they sent me coupons!  Love it!

Then I had an issue with a Gerber product.  It is kind of embarrassing to talk about this but it happened and I own it.  I purchased some of the Lil’ Bits Oatmeal cereal.  When I got home I attempted to open it.  I saw that it has a pour spout, but there was a seal on the opening.  So try as I might, I was finally able to pry the lid off.  When I did this the seal was open on one side.  Now I did not know if by prying it off I accidentally opened the seal or it was tampered with.  I did not want to take any chances.  After I had gotten the lid off I noticed that there were threads.  Duh!  Apparently the lid screwed off.  No where on the package did it state this and honestly yes I feel dumb but I just could not tell.  So I emailed Gerber and told them what happened and said that I could not give my son that cereal because I was just not sure if I caused the seal to be open or if someone else did that.  I wished that there was something that indicated the top screwed off.  (Surely I wasn’t the only person in the world to think that it popped off.)  Here is their response:  “Thank you for contacting us about Gerber Lil’ Bits Cereal,  We are sorry for any disappointment or inconvenience you may have been caused.  High quality standards have been established for all Gerber products and we want to know when an item does not meet your expectations.  The information you provided will be passed on to the appropriate personnel here at Gerber.  We have taken this opportunity to send coupons via postal mail to more than replace the unsatisfactory product.  We hope you will use them with complete confidence and satisfaction.”

It was not my intention to get coupons.  I merely just wanted to let them know that maybe it might be a good idea to mark the containers.  I thought perhaps I was not the only person that this happened to, at least I hoped so.  So I was very impressed that they sent me the coupons.

And finally, the Diaper Genie.  About 3 weeks ago, one of the flaps on the diaper genie stopped opening.  It still functioned, but was kind of a pain.  Anyway, I did not expect anything but I thought I would contact them just to see if they had some sort of warranty.  I let them know how long I had had it (over 10 months) and here is the response I got:  ” Thank you for reaching out to us regarding your recent experience with our Playtex Diaper Genie Elite.  Comments from our valued consumers are always welcome, and we were sorry to learn that our product did not meet your expectations. We apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate the opportunity to respond.  We are happy to send you a new unit but will need to retrieve the lid from the unit you purchased before it can be sent. . . ”

I could not believe it.  It was a little strange to mail the lid to them, but I understand they do this because I am sure people will take advantage.  I certainly missed that lid once it was gone.  But I got the new unit yesterday.

So I have had some great experiences with customer service lately.  It sure proves that you should take a chance and ask.  I do not condone people taking advantage of the system though or just doing things to get free stuff.  I worked with someone who, when she went to fast food places for lunch, would always go through the drive-thru when they were busy and then park the car and go inside and tell them they forgot to put something in the bag, like fries or a burger, even though she had a complete order.  This is wrong and I just don’t understand people who do things like that.

favorites friday – lactation cookies . . . October 11, 2013

Filed under: favorites friday — nowandevermore @ 1:18 PM

Thank you to my friend over at Are you there stork? it’s me for sharing a different lactation cookie recipe with me.  Not only is it better tasting that the one I made, I think it may have less fat than the other one.  AND they actually look appetizing this time, not like the ones I made last time that more closely resembled coasters.  🙂

You can find the recipe here.

I did not have any nuts so I added Butterscotch and Milk Chocolate chips.  I also used Almond Butter (I had just enough left over int he fridge).  They are so soft and yummy.  Still not something I would make just because I wanted some cookies (I think it is the brewer’s yeast that gives them a slight after taste) but they are much better than the other recipe.  Enjoy!

favorites friday . . . a good deal August 30, 2013

This is not a post about a particular product.  It is about a good deal we got today.  Who doesn’t love a good deal?

If you remember a week ago or so I mentioned the car seat we were going to purchase (Chicco Nextfit).  I have been watching for discounts or sales and little guy was still fitting into his car seat ok.  Well, he is getting quite snug in there and I happen to get the new flier from Babies”R”Us on Wednesday.  They list the car seat for $299.99.  This is $20 higher than Buy Buy Baby (they never seemed to have it in stock) and Amazon.  The seat was NOT on sale, but I did have a 20% off coupon that I could use on it.  Of course Buy Buy Baby has a 20% off coupon as well.  So it would make sense to get it from Buy Buy Baby.  But not so fast!  Babies”R”Us has “The Great Giveaway!”  If you purchase $50 or more you get a Free Babies “R”Us umbrella stroller valued at $20 or if you spend $100 or more you get a free Carter’s diaper bag valued at $40 or if you spend $150 or more you get a free Summer Infant Video Monitor valued at $100.  SCORE!!!!!!!

I know we already have a video monitor system at home that we received from a neighbor, but this one will be so nice when we visit my parents and put little guy down for a nap or to bed.

The one we have hooks up to the TV only so you are limited on viewing.  This one you can carry around with you!  I am so excited.  I have it charging as I type.  So with the discounts and tax I got the car seat and the video monitor for $260.  What a deal!

If you are interested in checking out the sale it goes from August 30 (today) through September 18.  The free items are only while supplies last.  The cameras were going quick when we went there this morning and that was about 30 minutes after they opened the store.

I am always on the lookout for great baby products.  I had read about Sophie the Giraffe shortly after our son was born.   The reviews on Amazon were great and I thought this would be a great product to have.  When he turned 4 months old a friend of ours sent Lil Pete a gift of the smaller Sophie.  As you can see by the photo he took to it immediately.  He loved chewing on it and it was easy for him to hold.  When he got a little older I got him the larger Sophie.  As he is getting closer to popping out a tooth (soon I hope!) he has really enjoyed chewing on this one too.   Both of them are great for teething.  He loves his Sophie and always smiles and reaches for it when I hold it out.

Ok, so I got busy with a project I am working on and totally forgot about posting today.  But I just checked my email and there was a fun link inside.  The email was from and it contained an Affirmation Generator link.

This is especially handy for those days when you feel like you just can’t seem to get ahead or you worry that you aren’t a good enough Mom.  I have been there (those days when I was severely lacking in sleep).

Keep clicking!  Enjoy!

favorites friday . . . wonder bumpers July 19, 2013

Ok, so I am all about saving money.  And I always try to find the best deal on whatever I buy and if something is just too expensive I can usually do without.

The reason I am prefacing this is because the product I am going to talk about was a bit pricey, but already it has proved it’s worth.

I am actually writing this post Thursday night.  We just received the Wonder Bumpers, I got them washed and installed.  Little guy’s bedtime was delayed about 30 minutes, but I do believe it was worth it!

Before I explain, I need to give a little background.  About a year or so after hubby and I got married, one of our neighbors moved to Florida.  He gave us a set of wireless security/baby cameras for free.  We actually set up the cameras to use to monitor the rose-bush out front.  Someone decided they were going to cut the roses off the bush before they could bloom.  I had an idea who it was, but we never seemed to have an issue after the camera was placed.  This was what we were hoping, so it was a success.  Well, the neighbor that I thought was doing it has moved.  Actually his house was foreclosed on and he had to move.  So we felt comfortable finally taking the camera down.  We decided to move it into the baby’s room.  Since we were going to do the CIO, I thought this would be great to be able to check on him.  The first few nights of CIO we did not have the camera installed, so I would go in and try to look at him by the light of the night-light and lightly put my hand on his back to make sure he was breathing (New mom paranoia).  Anyway, we installed the camera and I LOVE IT!  It has night vision, so it as clear as if the sun was shining.  We have it hooked up to the TV in our room and we can hop over from watching TV to watching him.

So we started to notice that even though we would put him down in the middle of his bed, he would usually end up like the photo I posted on Wednesday, perpendicular.  Or he would work his way down to the end of the bed.  All the while he would bang his head into the slats of the crib.  We weren’t sure how hard he was hitting it and the only “protection” was one of the breathable mesh bumpers.  So Tuesday night we set out to find a solution and I found the Wonder Bumpers on Amazon.

I did not want to get a regular bumper as I was still concerned with SIDS.  So when I saw this I was happy as it seemed to solve the problem.  After washing them and getting them all on (they come in 38, 24 and 2 per package, there are 40 slats on our crib, so we chose to leave 2 empty toward the other side where he doesn’t seem to go) I can say that I am very happy!  It took about 30 minutes to get them all on and right now I do not have the mesh bumper up and I will probably put that back up tomorrow as it will help prevent him from sticking his legs and arms through the slats. (UPDATE:  I did put the mesh bumper back on this morning and so he is set!)

We put him to bed and we watched on the TV as he moved around and bumped his head several times against the slats.  He only cried for a couple of minutes, the rest he just fussed a bit.  Such a big difference from the night before without the cushions.

They are very well made and reversible.  The brown and cream match some bins I have on the changing table, so it worked out great!  The other colors that were offered were more expensive, some almost double what we paid.  For what we paid, I would say it is worth it.  If he bangs his head, we know it doesn’t hurt like before.

favorites friday . . & Keeki Pure & Simple July 5, 2013

Today’s installment includes 2 favorites!

1.  I am a fan on their FaceBook page and get postings about the daily deals.  Typically I don’t see anything I am too interested in, as I am trying not to spend a lot of money.  They offer products each day at deep discounts.

2.  The other day I saw a listing for Keeki Pure & Simple Nail Polish on  I always love to have my toe nails polished and occasionally my finger nails.  I have not had a lot of time to spend on my toes and I have not done my finger nails because the nail polish I use always has a strong odor and with our little guy chewing on my fingers I certainly don’t want him sticking that in his mouth.  So when I saw this, I was intrigued.  Steals was offering them for 50% off.  I looked at the Keeki site and read about the product.  They are free of these chemicals:

  • Parabens
  • Pthalates
  • Toluene
  • Formaldehyde
  • Acetone
  • Synthetic Fragrance
  • Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate
  • Nanoparticles
  • Gluten

I was so happy to have found this!  It is a bit pricey.  I probably would not have bought it, had it not been offered at the discount.  I checked their site and also my go to, Amazon and the Steals price was well, a steal!  So I got 2 colors and a small kit that included Nail Polish remover, base coat and top coat.  I did manage to paint my toes the other day and so far so good.  It was so nice not smelling that awful nail polish smell.  I am going to try to paint my finger nails in the next day or so.  I can’t wait.
