So I reached 28 weeks yesterday and today we got to see our little guy again!

The bubble-like things above him is actually the umbilical cord..

Little guy is measuring 29 weeks and was a whopping 2 lbs 15 ozs.  He is in the 65th percentile (a little on the big side, but not too bad).  Everything looked great!  Good strong heartbeat and he was moving A LOT!

Besides my hubby, my mom was also in the u/s room, so she got to see him as well.

Pretty good day! 🙂

We also had our 3rd birthing class tonight.  Talked about c-section and other interventions during pregnancy, such as inducing, needing some help with a vacuum etc, and also pain remedy.  Pretty interesting stuff.  Really makes you think.

Of course I want to go as far as I can without pain medications, but I also know my body and if it comes down to it, I will do what I need to do safely to help this baby come into this world under as little stress as possible.

Sorry this is short, but I wanted to get it in before tomorrow and I before I head off to bed!

the tour . . . October 15, 2012

Tonight we had our tour of the labor and delivery at the hospital where I will be delivering our baby.  After, I left feeling very good about the decision to go to this hospital instead of the one closest to the house.

The entire 2nd floor is dedicated to moms and their new babies.  There is only one set of elevators that allow people to the 2nd floor and it opens up to a security desk where you have to be allowed in.  We started in one of the delivery rooms.  It was one of the larger rooms, designed for the high-risk moms or those having multiples.  The more babies the more people you need to take care of them, thus the more room.  But all the delivery rooms are designed the same.  They are very nice.  Here are a couple of pictures from the hospital website.

After the baby is born, the hospital encourages the mom and baby to stay together at all times, if possible.  They believe in skin-to-skin contact right away and trying to breastfeed as soon as possible.  This is exactly what I want.  After a couple of hours have passed we are moved to our regular room where we will be able to have visitors.  All rooms are private rooms.  Another plus!  Some even have an extra bed for daddy to sleep on.

We also got to walk by one of the nurseries and see a couple of the newborns.  Typically they are in here if the mom had a c-section.  Otherwise the baby is in your room at all times.  Again, another plus!

The hospital also has a Level 3 NICU which means it is one of the best.  I pray we don’t even have to use them, but knowing this takes a load off.

I just had a really good feeling after leaving there, that this was the right place for us.  In addition to that, I almost had a bit of a breakdown in the first room just thinking about when our little boy enters this world and how it is going to feel so surreal finally getting to hold him in my arms.  It has been such a long journey and in less than 3 months we will get to experience it.

Makes me super excited to see him on Thursdays ultrasound visit.  I will post a picture!

ob appointment and i can’t believe I did that . . . October 12, 2012

So today was our OB appointment.  It was for 9am.  We got there a couple of minutes prior.  And finally about 10:40am we got called back to see the doctor.  Yes you read that right.  And hour and a 40 minutes of waiting!  UGH!

I understand things happen and I would want to doctor to talk to me as long as I needed, but geesh!  I know next time to call ahead and see if he is running on time.  We are only 5 minutes away, so that would save us some frustration.

Everything looked great.  Urine was great, blood pressure was 120/80 great and heartbeat was great.

Doctor did the fundal measurement and it measured 29 cm.  He said it was good and meant that our little guy probably had a bit of a growth spurt, since I am only 27 weeks and 2 days.

I asked the questions I had.  As far as walking and the tightness.  As long as it goes away when I stop the activity it is ok.  But if it does not and it happens 5 times in an hour then I need to see him.

The lump at the top of my stomach is what I thought it might be; my intestines are popping through the muscles in my stomach.  It is not a hernia and he said he didn’t think it would get that bad.  He had maybe one patient in all his years have a hernia.  So keeping my fingers crossed that it does not pop!

He also felt around to see how the baby was sitting.  I put something together to give you an idea of how the baby is right now.

I thought it was interesting because he felt around below my belly button and said he thought it was the butt because it was soft.  🙂  Still time for him to get into the proper position for birth.  Hopefully by 36/37 weeks (if not sooner).

So my next appointment will be in 2 weeks.  Then 2 weeks after that I start seeing him twice a week for monitoring of the baby.  This is because I am 40 and am going to be 41 when I give birth and because this is an IVF baby.  Also starting that week I will get to have an ultrasound once a week.

Next week I get to see the baby again.  It will be my 28 week ultrasound to measure growth.  The weekly ultrasounds will be to look at the health of the baby and then at 35 weeks we will have another ultrasound to measure growth.  Looks like I will be seeing the doctor quite a bit in about a month.  I am glad there are so many appointments as it will help put me at ease.

I am also to start counting movements.  He said remember learning to drive, the 10 and 2 position.  Which means, 10 movements in a 2 hour time period.

So overall it was a good appointment, aside from the waiting.

We had our second child-birth class last night and it went well.  We practiced breathing techniques and relaxation.  We talked about the 3 stages of labor and also got to see a natural birth.  As I have these classes it is all getting more and more real.  Sometimes the anxiety starts to kick in and I start to get emotional thinking that in under 3 months we will be meeting our little guy.  And I can’t wait!

Now to the stupid thing I did after the doctor visit.  So after waiting so long to see the doctor and I had only had a small bowl of cereal this morning, I wanted to stop on the way home at a gas station/convenience store.  I picked something up and hubby was paying.  The total was $3.06.  I didn’t have my purse so I reached into the little cup on the counter and grabbed out 6 cents.  As I did this I thought to myself, wow there is a lot of change in there, usually it is only a few pennies.  I handed the change to the lady behind the counter.  Then I saw the sign.  Donate your change to the March of Dimes.  DOH!!  I could not believe I did that!!!!!!!

You see they always have a little cup to take or leave some change if you need, as do a lot of places.  The trouble was the sign was not prominent and hard to see.  Not that it is an excuse, but I would NEVER take money from a charity.  I was about to go out to the car to grab some change that hubby keeps in there and he decided to drop 2 dollar bills into the cup to make up for me taking the 6 cents.

I feel like such an ass!  It took all my strength to hold back my tears from feeling so badly about it.  I guess it could have been worse.  I could have just seen the sign and taken the money out of there without any concern at all.

Well, believe me I will be more aware next time!

Thanks for reading (and not judging me).

hello third trimester . . . October 11, 2012

So technically the 3rd trimester starts at 26 weeks and about 5 days.  I am rounding up to 27 weeks.

Feels so good to have made it this far already!  Time sure has flown by.

Things are going pretty well over all.  Still having issues sleeping and getting comfortable.  But I guess that is just preparing me for when our little guy comes.

We have our OB appointment tomorrow.  Like always, I have a list of questions for him.  I am hoping that he can tell me what this pain is that I have in my upper stomach area just under my left breast.  Hoping it isn’t anything serious and just a part of the growing process.

I also want to ask him about walking.  My belly gets hard and feels bigger.  I rest and it is better than when we start walking again goes back to being hard.  It isn’t like I am walking fast, but I just want to ask if this is “normal” and nothing to worry about.  I certainly need to keep walking even if it is only a little bit.  I am thinking it might be Braxton-Hicks, but we will see.

So I will report back on what he says.

I got some bra extenders yesterday and let me tell you, what a relief they are!!!  The band on my bra has gotten tighter this past week.  I am sure it is because my ribcage is expending to make room for the baby.  My cup size still seems ok, but it was getting to the point where it was just too uncomfortable to wear.  So I added a bra extender and what a difference!!!  Yay!

I know probably in a couple of more weeks I may have to get a larger cup size, but I wanted to put that off as long as I can. Then as my due date gets even closer I will have to get some nursing bras.

I got my first 2 baby registry items already!  I got a Boppy cover and an infant car seat cover.   Thank you friends, and you know who you are! 🙂

A lot of the posts I am reading on BabyCenter have to do with women having their baby showers this month.  I am still not sure if I am having one.  I didn’t have a wedding shower, so it isn’t the end of the world.  🙂  So many of my friends are spread all over the place, logistically it would be very tough.

Hope everyone is having a great week!

Thanks for reading.

another purchase, autumn and bending over . . . October 6, 2012

So yesterday Hubby and I went and bought the stroller/car seat.  Babies R Us is having a Columbus Day Sale and we got $30 off.  I was going to get it from Amazon, but apparently I waited too long.  The expected shipping date is within 1 to 2 months.  I certainly don’t want to risk it.  So with the money off at Babies R Us (BRU), it was practically the same price and they had a nicer color at BRU anyway.  🙂

I opted to go with the Graco Travel System.  It has the Snugride 30 car seat which has a great rating and so far I really like the stroller.  And a big thanks to Grandma for buying it for us!

Today I finally got some autumn decorations put up outside.  Not many but enough to get into the spirit of the season.

As you can see my marigolds are still in full bloom in the flower bed.  I want to buy 2 mum plants for the planters on the stoop then I will be finished.    Not quite sure what happened to my corn.  Last year the stalks dried out nicely and gave me that light tan color, but this year I have almost purple.  I guess it adds a nice bit of color to the display.

So bending over has become quite the task lately.  And thanks to Murphy’s Law, I seem to drop something at least once a day, usually more.  I just don’t have the room to bend with the belly these days.  So I tend to have to spread my legs out to lower my center of gravity and that usually helps.  Otherwise, I just ask Hubby to pick it up.  Trouble is when he isn’t here.  I would love to be able to train our dog to do it, but I don’t think I have the patience.  🙂

Had a pretty bad night of sleep last night.  As I was going to bed, my sciatica was acting up and I had a sharp pain in my right butt cheek.  So much so I could not move my right leg with out a stabbing feeling.  Falling asleep was next to impossible and I think I finally found a position that lessened the pain and was able to fall asleep about an hour after I went to bed.

We had to put the heat on last night,  I think the temp dropped into the low 30s or upper 20s. (During the day it is upper 40s to low 50s and I LOVE IT!)  But with a split level house you have to close the vents in the winter up stairs to get the warm air to stay down.  We did not do that last night and it felt really warm and woke both me and hubby up before 5am.  He went downstairs to watch TV and I stayed up in bed trying to fall back asleep.  About 6:15am or so I think I dozed off and then our dog started throwing up.  We both rushed to him and poor guy looked so sad.  We let him out and took him up to bed with us and we all tried to fall back asleep.  It worked until about 8am, when I seemed to be getting squeezed out of bed.  I was literally on the edge and Buddy was up against the pillow I use to lean on (helps with the side sleeping) followed by hubby snuggling with Buddy.  So I stayed in bed for about another 20 minutes until we all got up.

So not a great night.  Buddy is fine.  Not sure what caused it, but he is acting like nothing happened.  Hoping I can get a nap in today.

Hope everyone out there is having a great weekend!

Sorry I forgot to post this yesterday.  The day turned out a little differently that hubby and I thought.

Nothing wrong with the baby, just had to go help hubby’s dad with some things and it ended up taking most of the day.  A little stressful, but we made it through.

Things are moving right along.  Tonight we have our first child-birth class (1 of 4).  We are to bring 2 pillows and a blanket to the first 2 classes, so I am interested in what we may be doing.

The breastfeeding class was interesting.  Some of the things I had already known or read about previously, but there were some things I did not know.

Deciding to breastfeed is obviously a personal choice, but if you are really not sure whether or not you want to do it, I would suggest that you take a class and get some information about it.  I had already decided that I was going to breastfeed, because I truly think it is the best for the baby, but had I been on the fence, this class surely would have got me thinking.

Today I ordered something for my Halloween costume.  Hubby and I will be traveling over Halloween, but I thought it would be fun to have something to wear while we were on the road.  When I get it and make my “costume” I will post a photo! 🙂

double digits and our baby for the day . . . October 2, 2012

So looking at the ticker on my blog, we have now 99 days to go!  WOW!!  Yesterday the little guy was kicking up a storm.  I put hubby’s hand on my stomach and even he said “whoa!  I felt that one for sure!  Does it hurt?”  So far it doesn’t, but from what I have read that may be coming. 🙂

Tonight we have our Breastfeeding class.  We are instructed to bring a doll or a stuffed animal.  This was not as easy as one might think.  I do not have a doll and don’t really have any stuffed animals.  There is a small teddy bear that I got hubby when we were dating, but it seemed a bit on the small side.  Then I remembered I had “Foxy Woxy.”

I am hesitant about bringing him to class just because he is pretty old and very special.  You see I got him when I was around 8 to 10 years old.  Can’t remember the exact year.  So he is over 30 years old.  He sure has been through a lot.  His tongue was chewed off by a mouse, and he has lost his tail.  I have had to sew his left leg so it would not fall off and also sew a hole in his neck.

I got him when our dad took us to Six Flags.  It was an outing with a group he was in; Parents Without Partners.  My parents divorced when I was 6, I think, so our dad would take us to some of these outings when he had us for the weekend.  Anyway, I think he won this for me shooting darts at balloons, or some game like that.  This is not why Foxy is special.

Foxy Woxy is special because my dad took me on this ride (Mo-Mo the Monster).

We sat in the little car and the arms went up and down and spun around.  It scared me so much.  I was crying and screaming.  I remember my Dad just sitting there smiling/laughing, not even comforting me.  But I had Foxy Woxy and I held on to him so tightly.  Foxy got me through that ordeal and has been with me ever since.

So tonight Foxy will fill in for our little boy.  I can honestly say I never thought I would use Foxy for this purpose, but I know I can always count on him!  🙂
