Tonight we had our tour of the labor and delivery at the hospital where I will be delivering our baby. After, I left feeling very good about the decision to go to this hospital instead of the one closest to the house.
The entire 2nd floor is dedicated to moms and their new babies. There is only one set of elevators that allow people to the 2nd floor and it opens up to a security desk where you have to be allowed in. We started in one of the delivery rooms. It was one of the larger rooms, designed for the high-risk moms or those having multiples. The more babies the more people you need to take care of them, thus the more room. But all the delivery rooms are designed the same. They are very nice. Here are a couple of pictures from the hospital website.
After the baby is born, the hospital encourages the mom and baby to stay together at all times, if possible. They believe in skin-to-skin contact right away and trying to breastfeed as soon as possible. This is exactly what I want. After a couple of hours have passed we are moved to our regular room where we will be able to have visitors. All rooms are private rooms. Another plus! Some even have an extra bed for daddy to sleep on.
We also got to walk by one of the nurseries and see a couple of the newborns. Typically they are in here if the mom had a c-section. Otherwise the baby is in your room at all times. Again, another plus!
The hospital also has a Level 3 NICU which means it is one of the best. I pray we don’t even have to use them, but knowing this takes a load off.
I just had a really good feeling after leaving there, that this was the right place for us. In addition to that, I almost had a bit of a breakdown in the first room just thinking about when our little boy enters this world and how it is going to feel so surreal finally getting to hold him in my arms. It has been such a long journey and in less than 3 months we will get to experience it.
Makes me super excited to see him on Thursdays ultrasound visit. I will post a picture!
Thanks for reading!
